Privacy Statement

1. The Werno Community has its premises in Germany. Therefore, german or european privacy law will be applied (whichever has the stronger restriction i.e. the highest level of protection of your personal data). All contracts or complaints have to be settled in Frankfurt in Germany!


2. The Werno-Community gathers personal information from its members. Membership can only be approved when these details have been supplied. The Community will apply all necessary and possible precautions to protect your personal data. No personal information will be given away or will be published.


3. When registering, none of your personal data you supply will be published with one exception: The name that you supply as "Username" will be part of your email-address as well as your personal homepage's address. This username will be made available in certain areas of the site. If you want to stay anonymous and don't want to be recognized by this username, you should select a username that does not allow tracking back to you. If you already have a username and want to change it to another username for the described reason, please contact the Werno-Community administrator using the link supplied in the footers.


4. The Werno-Community may present statistical figures on its website which can be based on the data within the membership database. However, any data presented will not make it possible to trace back to any individual member. Such statistics may look like "20% of our members are from the U.S., 40% are from Germany ...".


5. Additional to the mandatory membership-information, any member can opt for different systems on our website, such as the "genealogy-section", the "profile-section" etc. Any information submitted to these sections will be publically available to all members and visitors of the Site. Members may chose at any time to add or remove content to these sections. Any section that members can submit information to will clearly state, if this information can be publicly accessed. It is among the choice of each member to submit or to not submit data to these sections.


6. If you find information about you within the postings of other members and would like them to be removed, you can - if contacting the member who posted the data doesn't help - contact the Werno-Community Administrators (see links in the footers) and ask for the content to be removed. This however does only apply for data about you.


7. IP Addresses & Cookies
   A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's hard drive that may contain information about the user. We may use cookies to deliver content specific to your interests.
   
   If you reject cookies, you may still use this site, but you may be limited in some areas of the site.
   
   Some of our business-partners may use cookies on our site (for example, advertisers). However, we have no access to or control over these cookies.


8. Log-Files
   The Werno-Community uses IP-Addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track user's movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP-Addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information


9. Sharing
   We may share aggregated demographic information with our partners and advertisers. This is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person, e.g. "20% of our users reside in France, 30% in Germany".


10. Links
    In an effort to provide additional value to our visitors and members, this Site contains links to other sites. Additionally, members may post links to other websites in certain areas. Please be aware, that we Werno-Community, are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy-statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiably information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this site!


11. Newsletter / Mailing Lists
    If a member or visitor subscribes to any of our mailing-lists, we ask for contact information such as name and email-address. This privacy statement also applies to this information.


12. Public Forums
    This site makes chat rooms, forums, message boards, available to its users. Please remember that any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information and you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal information.


13. Security
    This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control.


14. Notification of Changes
    If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on this webpage so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under circumstances, if any, we disclose it. If at any point we decide to use personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, we will notify users by way of an email. Users will have the choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.
